Support Local at the Farmers’ Market

Posted on

Summertime means a bounty of local produce at Farmers’ Markets all over BC. Whether you are sticking close to home or hitting the road this summer, shopping at the Farmers’ Market is the best way to experience local food culture, try new products and connect with growers, producers and artisans.

Scott and Merissa first started selling Tree Island Yogurt at the Comox Valley Farmers’ Market 10 years ago. Every Saturday, they loved connecting with like minded folks who shared their passion for growing and making delicious food. Scott’s parents soon started selling Tree Island Yogurt at the Moss Street Market in Victoria and making deliveries to retailers in the area. Although Tree Island no longer sells at the farmer’s markets, the brand remains committed to the spirit of the Farmers’ Market: community connection, local food security, and environmental responsibility.

“When you buy local, you are supporting farms and farmers in your community. You are using your buying power to invest in family farms that are close to your home. This creates local jobs, promotes land stewardship and provides fresh, nutritious food for you and your family. Food is connected to a healthy life and future – for us and for the planet.”

-Merissa Myles, co-founder of Tree Island Yogurt
